How to Make a Living as a Gambler [article from Articleranks]

How to Make a Living as a Gambler

Many have thought about it. Many have miserably failed at it, yet others owe their entire prosperous being to it. Gambling as whole is a double-edged sword it can either help you in the most difficult of times or eat you up in a matter of hours even minutes. Find out how you can become a professional gambler in a safe approach without betting it all on the line.

Gambling does not begin or end with casinos (online casinos included), dice, poker, sports betting or even backgammon. Every aspect of life has its gambling instants: some of us have children at the most undesirable moment imaginable, others quit their jobs in hope of finding the more lucrative positions and ultimately a means to an end fundamentally it is all a gamble.

We all certainly know the risks involved, but yet many of us pursue a less likely positive outcome; for some reason we endow high risk with dignity and perpetual progression, only to find out that our immediate instinct was somewhat irrational, or simply, highly emotional. The crux of the matter is this: if you want to take up a life of gambling as a means to your end, you have to understand that the way to be successful at it is by being intellectually sound and wholly knowledgeable in you preferred gambling niche. How many of us have heard about Joe Shmoe blowing his life savings based on an astrological section written by a red-haired somebody in a cheap magazine? If you want to make it in gambling you have to become a master at your craft. Why do you think it is year in, year out the same 30 to 40 players at the few final tables at nearly every WSOP tournament? I think we can all agree that luck plays no part in their success, but hard work and dedication towards these individuals' chosen profession.

There are of course games that should never be contemplated by pros. Online casino video slots, for example, are a bad idea for the player who wants to make money at an expert level; and whilst video pokers involve a little bit skill, they can still be regarded as unpredictable. Games that offer skills to those that are willing to spend time learning their trade include games such as poker, roulette, blackjack (although card counting has pretty much become obsolete) and perhaps some sports betting variations depending on how involved the gambler is with the sport at question. An example of that is football (in the US soccer) betting. A person who wishes to bet professionally on the outcome of football games needs to know everything about the participating teams; the squads, the injuries, the form of each player; the coach's starting lineup, the home and away records, historical background on the fixture and the view of the journalists who preview the game. And even then it can be very difficult to guess the outcome.

Whatever gambling type you choose to deal in, make sure that you do not mix business with pleasure. Make certain that you have a sober mind, an objective mind, and that you create a dedicated bankroll intended for your gambling exploits. Never, ever sell your essentials to feed your gambling. Remember, if your gambling habit becomes an ordeal you are not supposed to be a professional gambler in the first place. Be realistic about the reasons you employ when you choose to gamble. This choice of profession is not for the lily-livered.
